More than 425 local businesses and individuals came together and donated an incredible $137,747 to benefit the Shoreline Soup Kitchens & Pantries through the Gowrie Group Challenge. Not only did the challenge surpass the declared goal of raising $125,000, but more donors than ever before participated in the challenge.

The Men's Auxiliary of VFW Post 10153 in Old Saybrook held a Golf Tournament to benefit The Shoreline Soup Kitchens & Pantries, raising $1,000.00.  These funds will provide enough food for 2,565 meals. “We sincerely thank the VFW of Old Saybrook for supporting our mission to feed the hungry,” said Patty Dowling, SSKP Executive Director.  “Because of the help of caring community partners like the Old Saybrook VFW Men’s Auxiliary we can make a place at the table for our neighbors in need.”

The Liberty Bank Foundation has awarded a $5,000 grant to The Shoreline Soup Kitchens & Pantries to support the purchase of food from the CT Food Bank.

 

"SSKP is so grateful for the generous support we receive from The Liberty Bank Foundation. This donation helps assures that people in need on the shoreline have a place to turn for food and fellowship. With these funds specifically we will be able to distribute enough food at our pantries for over 13,150 meals. On behalf of all those we serve, I thank The Liberty Bank Foundation for supporting our local neighbors in need," said Patty Dowling, executive director of SSKP.

 

"The need for services continues to be more critical than ever during the current economic conditions," said Leigh-Bette Maynard, manager of Liberty Bank's Essex and Old Saybrook offices. "A need exists in every community including the Shoreline. Liberty is proud to be a long-time supporter of Shoreline Soup Kitchens and Pantries."

The foundation seeks to improve the quality of life for people of low or moderate income by investing in three areas: education to promote economic success for children and families; affordable housing; and nonprofit capacity building.
