Feeding the Hungry Along the Shoreline

get helpThe Shoreline Soup Kitchens & Pantries is an interfaith service that provides food and fellowship to those in need and educates our community on hunger and poverty.

Over the past year Walmart and the Walmart Foundation have helped feed the hungry of the shoreline by supporting The Shoreline Soup Kitchens & Pantries (SSKP). The Walmart Foundation awarded a grant of $25,000, which was used to purchase fresh and non-perishable food for distribution at 5 weekly pantries in SSKP’s 11-town region. The Walmart Foundation also donated a commercial grade freezer to SSKP’s East Lyme Pantry through the Connecticut Food Bank, and donated food directly from their Walmart store located in Old Saybrook.

“Support from the Walmart Foundation makes such a difference”, said Ellen Rabin, SSKP Executive Director. “The generous funds provided, the new commercial freezer, and the food donations help assure that all our neighbors on the shoreline can provide their families with healthy meals. With their generous grant funds we were able to provide enough food for over 78,000 meals to those in need. We are very grateful for Walmart’s long-term commitment to our mission of providing food and fellowship.”
